E & P Convergent Digital Solutions: Real-Time Data Monitoring, Data Management Remote Collaboration & Operations Support Centres for Drilling & Production

This session will cover the application of convergent digital solutions specifically to the drilling and production environments of offshore oil & gas fields.  The real-time gathering of data, the management and manipulative analysis of that data, the remote collaboration of various physical locations including Operations Support Centres will be particularly addressed.

E & P Convergent Digital Solutions ‘Plus’: The Design & Ergonomics of the Collaborative Visualisation Environment

The communications dynamics of the oil & gas sector extend way beyond the geology and seismology of locating and extracting raw energy sources from underground or beneath the sea, to include the various individual segments of the industry vertical as a whole.  Within this, Collaborative Visualisation Environments (CVE) allow for the simultaneous access and sharing of huge volumes of data between the multiple nodes of the oil & gas E & P environment.  This panel will explore the practicalities of extending the bandwidth employed by the ‘turnkey solutions’ that are so often required by ICT mangers in the sector to a true, multiple, end-to-end connectivity, that is able to serve not only the entire range of industry applications demands at any one physical location, but throughout and across an entire networked decision-making environment.

The North Sea Oil & Gas Patch in the Greater Oil & Gas World: Global VSAT Connectivity & Local Wireless Connectivity Hardware Case Studies

Whilst cost-effective, reliable and scalable communications are one of the essential precursors of E & P efficiencies for the oil & gas sector, exploration and extraction of these essential economic resources often takes place where the natural environment creates significant challenges for equipment design and physical resilience.  This is certainly true in the North Sea and of other, emerging, offshore oil & gas environments, where personal radio, mobile telephony, WiFi and satellite hardware used at the well-head and throughout rig and field locations must be built to take the roughest of rides.  In this session panellists will provide some case study examples of hardware that can take it.

Maintaining the Business Mission Critical Link: Oil & Gas Communications When Disaster Strikes

This session will explore the real-world realities in the oil & gas environment of maintaining and restoring essential communications pathways during – and immediately after – connectivity interruptions such as natural disasters (e.g., major storms at sea), and human conflict situations (e.g., acts of terrorism).  The effectiveness of different communications platforms in making useful provision for business continuity/disaster recovery/emergency management in various situations, particularly the unique contribution of satellite communications in such circumstances, will be examined in particular detail.

“All the 9s”: Maximising Redundancy with Out-of-band Control & Monitoring Solutions

Key to today’s operations and availability demands, end to end connectivity systems are increasingly being designed and implemented with out of band Control, monitoring & redundancy solutions. The quest for 100% availability continues with a growing number of technologies being designed and implemented. This session will investigate these technology advances, the impact on the Oil & Gas business models these technologies address and the advantages that investing in them brings to the end user.
